Lactose. An unexpected passion.
I still exactly remember the day when I encountered MEGGLE lactose for the very first time: There it was, a fully packed paper bag with the characteristic label “Tablettose® 80 – agglomerated lactose from MEGGLE”, and the auspicious, friendly cloverleaf. For me, as a young pharmacy student, it was all new and more than exciting to handle the pleasant material while starting the manufacture of “real” tablets. An eccentric tablet press of long standing was repeatedly filled with freshly prepared powder mixture and willingly spat out one “precious piece” after the other in a monotone. My first self-made tablets were my pride and joy and I never thought they would become an important part of my life.

For me, as a young pharmacy student, it was all new and more than exciting to handle the pleasant material while starting the manufacture of “real” tablets. An eccentric tablet press of long standing was repeatedly filled with freshly prepared powder mixture and willingly spat out one “precious piece” after the other in a monotone. My first self-made tablets were my pride and joy and I never thought they would become an important part of my life.
In the meantime, several decades passed by and I have been working full-time with formulation aids, especially in the fields of lactose. I was allowed to gain deep insight into dietary supplement, excipient, and pharmaceutical industries, as well as into its corresponding research areas. Based on these experiences, I now try to ease lives of worldwide colleagues in development, production, and research by means of excipient innovation.
In this context, contacts to universities and educating research institutes are particularly close to my heart. Here is much fun talking “out of the box” to highly competent colleagues, there even greater passion is developed when tough problems can be solved in close collaboration, and a special spirit is generated when partnerships are established. Fortunately without exception, such institutions have recognized very early that their students have to get fit for real life and professional career; simple structuring or filing of facts is no longer sufficient. A graduate should be able to make use of tools acquired during education, not only to recognize them once again.
Supporting interested students from a practical industrial perspective either on personal demand or by e-learning offers, is therefore one of my most meaningful activities in my job-related occupation. My mission of given guest lectures is the demonstration of useful possibilities and smart processes, the provision of fruitful impetus, just as the impartment of profound knowledge with exemplified future transformation into products including an unique selling proposition.
